The Fast And The Furious (2001 Film)
With it being Summer all, I wanted to look back at an old Summer blockbuster movie that amazingly, is now 25 years old. I am talking about the Fast and Furious movie starring Vin Diesel and late Paul Walker and it was originally released in June of 2001.
This movie also features Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg, Johnny Strong and Ted Levine.
Based on an article written by Ken Li which was about illegal street racing, it soon became a screenplay written by Gary Thompson, David Ayer and Erik Bergquist.
The story follows Paul Walker as Undercover Agent Brian O'Conner who is sent to infiltrate a street racing crew who are under investigation for a series of hijackings and soon finds himself in a very complex friendship with the group leader Dominic Toretto (Diesel).
Movies like this was one of the reasons why I became a fan of Vin Diesel. He did an incredible job as Toretto and witnessing the chemistry between him and O'Conner was awesome to watch. Heck! The whole cast was such a joy to watch, it really felt like they were real people and had known each for many years. Whether it be Jesse, Vince, Leon, Mia or Letty, the cast was amazing and getting to re-watch this movie, I still feel the same way as I have grown older.
I really loved the scene between O'Conner and Toretto where Toretto explains to him how he lost his Father and was banned from the tracks. It was really deep emotionally and I still get affected by it. Nicely done Vin!
Of course being a movie about street racing, you got to have some incredible vehicles and this movie has it in spades. Personally, I really liked the car that O'Conner found to help rebuild which ultimately be used for the final race which was a fun scene. Also, the muscle car Toretto had was sick!
Another reason as to why I loved this movie was the soundtrack. A mixture of hip-hop, nu-metal among others. Songs like Debonaire by Dope, Click Click Boom by Saliva, etc.
Also, this may sound weird, but I love the whole family aspect of the film. Seeing the cast come together and have a barbecue party. Of course, these guys are hijackers and criminals which I understand that. I guess, it just felt like they were wanting to find a better life and just feel free in a world filled with chaos.
But overall, I really loved this movie and it certainly brought me back to a simpler time where I was young and finding my way in this world. The movie was just as fun for me now as it was back then.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
