The Goonies! (1985 Film)
This one might be a little late in reporting, but I recently found out that the 80s classic the Goonies, has a sequel in the works. I honestly not really sure how I feel about that personally. But nonetheless, this news has inspired me to look back on the original movie that made its debut on the silver screen back in 1985.
The Goonies is an adventure comedy directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Christopher Columbus based on a story from Steven Spielberg.
The film stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton and Ke Huy Quan who play members of the Goonies.
This group of young adventurers live in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon and they discover a treasure map which they believe can help them save their homes from being foreclosed. However, along the way, the gang quickly discovers that they are being chased after by a family of criminals.
First of all, the Goonies is an incredible film. Second, it carried a budget of 19 million dollars but scored a box office of 125 million dollars worldwide. Thirdly, in 2017, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the US Congress as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
Despite this movie coming out in the 80s before I was even born, I still felt like I could relate to the Goonies. I mean especially as a young child, who doesn't want to go out on adventures with your friends and make amazing discoveries.
I really loved the comedy in the movie, whether it be the traps or seeing the duo of Chunk and Sloth especially whether Sloth becomes Superman. What the film and you will know exactly what I mean HAHA.
Even now as an adult, seeing this film brings the kid out of me again and in my humble opinion, this movie still holds up and the message behind it still connects with me even though it has been over 40 years since its original release.
If you never seen this film, I really suggest that you do. You will not be disappointed.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
