Smokey The Bear

 You want to talk about making a cultural impact on the lives of many, look no further than the lovable cartoon known as Smokey the Bear.

For nearly 100 years now, this protector of the forest has been helping all of us understand the importance of fire safety and putting a stop to wildfires.

And has Smokey done such an incredible job in doing so having appeared in numerous posters, ads, clothes, commercials, etc. Making this the longest running public service announcement campaign in United States history.

Smokey made his debut due to the many experienced firefighters or able bodied males were out fighting World War 2 and so Smokey was created to help reduce unplanned wildfires caused by human errors.

Although he began as a cartoon, Smokey soon became a living breathing creature. An unfortunate accident which caused a wildfire in New Mexico where a small three month old black bear who was sadly burnt in multiple places. Originally, they called the bear Hotfoot Teddy, but soon was changed to Smokey and the rest as they say is history.

It really is cool to see something that has lasted as long as Smokey the Bear has done. I mean, Smokey has been around for so long even my parents were not born when it happened. Sorry for making you feel old mom and dad 😁.

Congrats on such an amazing run Smokey! Here is to many more years!

Congrats To Trent Hidlay! (World Champion)

 Although, it has become common knowledge, by many of us who live in Mifflin County. But former Huskies' great Trent Hidlay pulled off an incredible comeback and became the 2025 World Wrestling Champion in Croatia at 92 kg. After being down 10-2, Hidlay powered his way back to defeat Amanula Gadzhimagomedov 13-10 to win the World's Gold Medal. This is such an inspirational story that needs to be told because stuff like this does not happen very often, especially in a small community like Mifflin County.  To me, the story of Trent is all about never giving up and continuing to push forward as well as hard work and dedication. 25 Years Of Loving Memories!

WOW! It is very hard to believe that on this day April 25, 2000, I lost one of the most fun and loving people that I have ever known. And I called him Pap! It really is true about how time flies, it still feels like only yesterday that I was told that Pap had past away. It was my first experience with death in my life and honestly, didn't handle it too well. For nearly ten years, my Pap never failed to make me smile and laugh. Heck! I always looked forward to seeing him and Nan when I was a kid. Some of my personal favorite memories with Pap was when he took me and my big brother Cody to go see the Merf Dog. I also loved when every time that we would leave and we forgot to hug him, he would begin to "cry" that we didn't hug him and we ended up running back up the porch step and give him and Nan and BIG Hug.
