Are You Afraid Of The Dark (TV Series)
With Halloween closing in on us like a good horror monster, I thought I write about one of my favorite shows of my childhood called Are You Afraid Of The Dark.
Are You Afraid Of The Dark was an horror anthology series that was created by the dynamic duo of DJ MacHale and Ned Kandel and was aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996 before being revived in 1999 to 2000 and lastly from 2019 to 2022.
Despite the different series, it still centered around the group of teenagers called the Midnight Society. Each episode features the group as they settle around a campfire during the night at a secret location where one member of the Midnight Society would tell a scary story.
However, rather than just telling story, it was displayed for the viewers at home. Each storyteller would begin their tale by saying "Submitted for the Approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story (Story Name). They would then took into the fire some "Midnight Dust" which I recently learned that it was Coffee-Mate that was tossed into the fire, heighten the flames and created the eerie white smoke.
Another cool fact that I learned about the show was that the "Submitted for Approval of" was actually a nod to the classic show the Twilight Zone, which is also an incredible show that people should watch.
The themes of each story usually involves the paranormal phenomena, like demons, ghosts, magic, haunted houses, magical curses, aliens, witches, vampires, werewolves and each story usually is located in the woods, an abandoned building, or public places like schools and libraries.
Most of the endings to episode, a character would take a bucket and throw water onto the fire while stating "I declare this meeting of the Midnight Society closed" and the group would then leave the campsite.
The biggest reason as to why I loved this show, is because I really would have loved to be able to just get out of the house and go and be with friends and just tell great stories. I never really was able to do that myself because where I lived and being socially awkward didn't help me. Me and my twin brother Chad would always talk about we wish to be a part of the Midnight Society.
Just a bunch of friends, wanting to have an amazing time and tell some spooky stories. That in my humble opinion was what made the show so special to me.
My personal favorite episode was the Tale of the Midnight Ride, simply because I love the story of Sleepy Hollow and the whole concept of the Headless Horseman.
This was such an amazing show and I highly recommend every single one of you to go and watch it.
Well I guess this blog post is closed lol.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
