Metal Gear (Video Game Series)

 With the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater recently hitting the store shelves, I thought it be cool to go back and look at the history of the Metal Gear franchise itself. And WOW! It never really donned on me how old this franchise is until I started doing my research for this blog.

But the Metal Gear franchise has been around for nearly forty years now 🤯. And it has set the standard for all stealth video games that came after it.

Metal Gear was created by Hideo Kojima and was published by Konami with the first game being released back in 1987 on the NES. The story follows a soldier named Solid Snake who is a part of an elite military group called FOXHOUND. Snake is on a mission to sneak inside the headquarters of a group called Outer Heaven and destroy a walking tank that can fire nuclear missions from anywhere in the world, AKA the Metal Gear.

Along with bring stealth games into the forefront, the Metal Gear franchise can also be credited for setting the foundations for what many people now call, cinematic video games. Usual themes like cyberpunk, dystopian, political and philosophical.

The first time I had ever heard of the Metal Gear series was the very first Metal Gear Solid game that came out in 1998. I was very impressed with the whole concept of it, I loved the character of Solid Snake. However, I must say that Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty really turned me into a fan of the series when it came out for the PS2.

I also really loved playing Metal Gear Solid 5 the Phantom Pain which came out 10 years ago. But that is a blog for another time.

This is how good the Metal Gear series is, it has grossed at least 2.5 billion dollars since it had debut. Many of the entries of the franchise have been among some of the greatest games of all time and have won numerous rewards including Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater was voted fifth greatest game by Playstation UK Magazine, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 are in the Smithsonian Art Museum's The Art of Video Games in 2012.

Solid Snake has also been named as one of the greatest video game characters of all time.

Kojima created such a masterpiece and God Bless you sir for making such an amazing gaming franchise.

I can not even imagine how the celebration will be when this game hits its 40th anniversary.

The Wacky Adventures Of Joshua and Chad: McVeytown Eagles Championship Parade!

Well tonight was a pretty special night down here in McVeytown as Chad and I along with many other people who live here in McVeytown all came together to celebrate a special accomplishment. And that was how all three of the McVeytown Eagles teams made it to the CKYFL championship games. Winning in both the Peewee and Midget divisions and placing second in the Mighty Mights. Stuff like this doesn't happen often in such a small town where I live so to see these kids have the time of their lives during the parade was certainly a sight to see. One of the things I love about covering sports is when I see kids learn, work hard and turn it into success. And these kids were learning a lot throughout the season and watching them grow and not only become better football players, but better people as well.  Which is why I have really enjoyed covering the CKYFL these last few years for Hometown Sports. The 2005 Lewistown Panthers Football Team!

 I recently completed reading my story for Hometown Sports Magazine about the 2005 Lewistown Panthers football team who finally ended a thirty years of losing seasons. In this blog, I wanted to talk about why I wanted to write about this team and how I feel the lessons that were learned about them throughout the year can still be used today.  One of the biggest reasons as to why I wanted to write about this team was because of how much of team these guys were both on and off the field. These guys have played the game of football together for a number of years and it clearly showed. Plus being a youngster, I really didn't know the history of Lewistown Panthers football.
