Stryper (Christian Metal Band)

It is crazy to think that this incredible band has been rocking out for over 40 years now and they are just as good as they were when they first started. Which is rich coming from me considering that I wasn't even born when they first started 😂 but nonetheless, Stryper is an amazing band.

For those who may not know, the name of Stryper came from the bible. In the book of Isaiah 53:5, the backronym of their name is "Salvation, Through, Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness.

Their first EP, The Yellow and Black Attack came out in 1984 and hit the ground running becoming the first Christian Metal Band to be accepted into the mainstream.

As of 2024, Stryper has released 16 albums from the Yellow and Black Attack all the way to their most recent album, When We Were Kings.

As mentioned before, these guys were head banging for Jesus long before I was even born. The first time that I had ever heard of Stryper was because of a professional wrestler named Chris Jericho. So I reached out to some of my friends who also like metal and asked about them and they suggested some songs to listen to and to be honest, I was completely blown away about them.

I am being a bit biased here, but having brothers myself, I love the fact that two of the members of the band are brothers in Michael and Robert Sweet. Robert being an amazing drummer and Michael having one of best vocals that I personally have ever heard in music. But there are also plenty of other great musicians that have been a part of Stryper, people like current guitarist Oz Fox, former bass guitarist Tim Gaines and current bass guitarist Perry Richardson.

Another reason why I am a fan of Stryper was how relatable they are to me because for many years and even to this very day, some people have given me trouble on both sides of the fence. Some Christians have given me crap because I love listening to metal music and some metal people have given me are hard time because I listen to Stryper who sings about God. I never understood why people made such a big deal about a metal band wanting to sing about Jesus. But thank the good Lord, I was introduced to Stryper and so many other amazing bands like Demon Hunter, POD, Skillet, RED, etc. It showed me that I can listen to Metal and have faith at the same time.

Looking back on their history, it amazes me how much they went through, being attacked by a lot of "Christians" despite their constant efforts to prove themselves. I mean these guys were literally throwing bibles out into the crowd and telling them to trust in the Lord. Yet somehow they are horrible people, it never made sense to me. But God Bless them for getting through all of that and I am grateful to God that they are still around playing great music.

Speaking of music, Stryper has come out with plenty of great songs for anyone to jam to. Songs like Soldiers Under Command, Honestly, To Hell With The Devil, In God We Trust, Lonely, Reborn, I Believe, Saved By Love, Yahweh, Even The Devil Believes and so much more.

But my personal favorite Stryper song is by God which was on their album called The Covering. Just hearing how Michael sings on that song is truly amazing.

God Bless you Stryper! Thank you so much for inspiring us all and bringing us closer to God!

Until Next Time!

God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
