Spawn (Comic Book Character)

 One of my favorite comic book characters of all time. The dark warrior from Image Comics himself, Spawn. Spawn was created by Todd McFarlane who had just left Marvel Comics to form Image Comics and was released in May in 1992.

The story of Spawn follows Al Simmons, a government assassin who had been killed by his employer Jason Wynn who grew tired of Simmons and his increasing sense of morality. Simmons was then sent to Hell where he met Maleboliga one of the demon lords and made a deal where he gets to see his wife Wanda again. 

Unfortunately for Simmons, he reawakens as a Hellspawn five years later, realizing that his wife had moved on with his friend Terry Fitzgerald as well as many of his memories missing. With little choice, Spawn adopts his new identity in an effort to atone for his past sins and use his newfound powers for good.

Early on in his time as Spawn, Simmons did battle with street thugs and gangs becoming a dark, sadistic anti-hero. But then soon come up against the forces of both Heaven and Hell, like the angelic warrior Angela or the Redeemer as well as a cyborg called Overt-Kill and so much more.

Which is one of the reasons why I love reading Spawn comics, the whole concept of Heaven versus Hell. It is something that every single one of us has faced in our daily lives. Whether we realize it or not, the battle between Heaven and Hell is constant and it includes the choices we all make every single day of our lives.

Just look at Al for an example, he was so desperate to be with his wife Wanda again, that he wasn't thinking straight and ultimately was tricked into becoming a Hellspawn. The moral ambiguity of the Spawn comics is what really gets to me because you never really know at times in real life who the good guys are or who the bad guys are.

Some of the characters besides Spawn are the Redeemer, Angela was a great character but sadly is no longer with Image Comics, Violator is one of the most evil characters I have ever read in my life, just a total creep. Mike the Messenger who is the Archangel Michael who is sent by God to help guide Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn is extremely good. But I personally really enjoy the characters of Sam and Twitch, they are such a dynamic duo.

Spawn has been in one featured film which I can't believe that it is nearly 30 years old when it came out in 1997 which starred Michael Jai White and I really enjoyed the movie. I also can not believe that I was seven years old when it came out and I was allowed to watch it lol.

Another one I really loved watching was the HBO Animated series which lasted for three seasons with a total of 18 episodes.

Spawn also has been involved in video games as well!

Congrats to McFarlane and Image Comics for creating such an amazing character.

The Wacky Adventures Of Joshua and Chad: McVeytown Eagles Championship Parade!

Well tonight was a pretty special night down here in McVeytown as Chad and I along with many other people who live here in McVeytown all came together to celebrate a special accomplishment. And that was how all three of the McVeytown Eagles teams made it to the CKYFL championship games. Winning in both the Peewee and Midget divisions and placing second in the Mighty Mights. Stuff like this doesn't happen often in such a small town where I live so to see these kids have the time of their lives during the parade was certainly a sight to see. One of the things I love about covering sports is when I see kids learn, work hard and turn it into success. And these kids were learning a lot throughout the season and watching them grow and not only become better football players, but better people as well.  Which is why I have really enjoyed covering the CKYFL these last few years for Hometown Sports. The 2005 Lewistown Panthers Football Team!

 I recently completed reading my story for Hometown Sports Magazine about the 2005 Lewistown Panthers football team who finally ended a thirty years of losing seasons. In this blog, I wanted to talk about why I wanted to write about this team and how I feel the lessons that were learned about them throughout the year can still be used today.  One of the biggest reasons as to why I wanted to write about this team was because of how much of team these guys were both on and off the field. These guys have played the game of football together for a number of years and it clearly showed. Plus being a youngster, I really didn't know the history of Lewistown Panthers football. I only remember going to games because I remember my cousins playing on the team. But talking about the football team in general, to put it nicely, there wasn't a lot of success.
