Las Vegas Raiders Celebrates 65 Years Of Football!
Well to say that this team has a colorful history will be putting it mildly. The "Bad Boys" of the NFL will be celebrating their 65th year as a professional football team this coming season.
Although they are now the Las Vegas Raiders, they were originally founded in Oakland, Ca back in 1960 in another football league called the AFL (American Football League). Interesting fact that I learned about the Raiders what that they were originally plan to be called the Senors and were to wear the colors orange and black before going with the name Raiders and switching to the more known silver and black.
The first three years the team struggled to get going in large part due to poor performances on the field, financial difficulties and low attendance.
But things began to turn around for the Raiders as they hired Head Coach and eventual owner Al Davis in 1963. Davis owned the team from 1972 till his death in 2011 (Rest In Peace). What is also interesting, Tom Brady owns a piece of the team currently.
The Raiders have won championships in both the AFL and NFL, winning the AFL title in 1967 before winning three Super Bowls in 1976, 1980 and finally in 1983. They also have four Conference titles and 15 Division titles.
This organization featured such great Hall Of Fame talent like Howie Long, Marcus Allen, Gene Upshaw, Ted Hendricks, Art Shell, Jim Otto, George Blanda, Ray Guy, Tim Brown, Ken Stabler, Charles Woodson, Cliff Branch and Lyle Alzado.
Along with Al Davis, the Raiders had some great coaches in the late great John Madden (RIP) who also help create an amazing gaming franchise as well as Tom Flores who won the last two titles for the Silver and Black. Ron Wolf also came from the Raiders who also help bring the Packers back to their first title in years.
Again, with the 2025 season coming on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how the Raiders will fare and can they get back on top of the AFC West.
Best of luck to the Raiders!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
