Great American Bash 1990 Sting Defeats Ric Flair 35 Years Later
July of 1990 wasn't just the month and year of my birth, but it was a special moment for one of my personal favorite pro wrestlers of all time! And his name is Sting.
After getting his start in wrestling in the mid-80s, the Stinger how found his way to WCW which was one of the biggest wrestling companies of the time. Pretty soon, he was going up against the very best that professional wrestling has to offer. Guys like Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Terry Funk, Great Muta, Lex Luger, etc.
Sting soon became a big time player for WCW in 1988 after his incredible match with Flair at the very first Clash of the Champions show which went to a 45 minute draw and Sting was off to the races after that.
Sadly, it had appeared that Sting's chances at a World title were possibly in danger as earlier in the year of 1990, Sting suffered a knee injury. But he continued to work through it and managed to be ready to face Flair.
After going nearly twenty minutes, Flair attempted to put Sting in the Figure Four Leg Lock. But the Stinger surprised the Nature Boy with an inside cradle and scored the three count and became the NEW WCW World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career.
This match was basically the launching point for Sting to become the franchise of WCW, a moniker that he still carries to this very day.
Obviously, I didn't get a chance to see the match as it exactly happened, but thanks to the internet, I got to witness and it was really cool to see Sting win.
Sting has been a favorite of mine for a very long time now, not just inside the ring, but outside of it as well. Seeing what he has been through and where he is at in his life is truly remarkable and he has been a huge inspiration for me in my own life.
God Bless you Sting! Thank you for being such an inspiration!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
