The Shadow (Comic Book Character)
It has been a while since I got to talk about a comic book character, sadly I do not think many people would be aware of this character, but then again I could be wrong. But today I am talking about The Shadow. Who knows what evils lurk inside the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!
The Shadow was created by Publisher Street & Smith along with writer Walter B. Gibson back in the early 1930s. With first making his debut as the narrator to the Detective Story Hour in 1930 and was voiced by the great Orson Welles (RIP). Meanwhile, the first comic book of the Shadow didn't debut until April of 1931.
From there onward, The Shadow has been featured in comics, video games, television, movies, you name it, The Shadow was in it.
Though originally named Kent Allard, but the most well known is Lamont Cranston who is used in the 1994 film starring Alec Baldwin.
What I love about the Shadow is how straight forward he is, much like a lot of the pulp comics were at the time. The Shadow was basically the Batman before Batman, however, the Shadow used guns while Batman did not among a few other differences.
V for Vendetta was also influenced by the Shadow and like Batman you should also check out V for Vendetta as well. But, back to The Shadow. The cartoon classic, Darkwing Duck was also inspired by the Shadow. Heck! There is even a blues band called The Lamont Cranston Band which is named after his alter-ego.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about the character was his large network of agents he has at his disposal in his war against crime. It kind of reminds me of a secret society who hides in the shadows so to speak and fight against the forces of evil.
It really is a shame that not many people know about The Shadow because he really is a great character, with his duel wielding pistols, his ability to control the minds of people to keep himself to them.
Sadly, I do not have any Shadow comics 😞, I wish that I could find some of the classics because it is really is cool to find the comics that help paved the way for comic books today.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
