The Kingdom (Pro Wrestling Faction)
This was one of my favorite factions in pro wrestling going today and I have been following these guys for a long time now. The first time I got to witness the Kingdom was in Ring Of Honor which at the time was one of my favorite pro wrestling companies to watch. I just loved the simple approach to wrestling during this time period. Sure they had characters just like any other promotions, but I just liked how they made it about keeping it in the ring. It felt like an actual sport, plus they had a working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling at the time.
But back to the Kingdom, they were formed in 2014 as Adam Cole, Michael Bennett and Maria Kanellis had found themselves under the tutelage of Matt Hardy aka their spiritual leader. Hardy though didn't stay long with the group before leaving the promotion but Matt Taven had joined the group and they were off to the races.
One of the reasons why I loved watching the Kingdom was just the chemistry between the four of them. Adam Cole is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch today, Taven and Bennett are an underrated tag team in my humble opinion. These two always seem to make me laugh with their promos but showed that they could compete with some of the best teams in ROH/NJPW. It took a little while for me to get use to seeing Maria as a heel though, I was still use to seeing her during her time in WWE. But eventually I really love seeing her and Mike when it came to the Title of Love belt during their rivalry with the Briscoes.
Despite the fact that they were heels (Bad Guys) I love the people behind the gimmick. Seeing them whether it be interviews, gaming channels or even Taven's travel channel, I just loved how the Kingdom were as people. It just proves the old theory that people who play villains are usually great people in real life.
The original version of the Kingdom only lasted two years and honestly I wish they could have gone longer than they did. I didn't think these guys were at a peak yet in Ring Of Honor, I loved watching them compete against other wrestlers, tag teams and other factions like the Bullet Club, RedDragon, The Briscoe brothers, the Addiction, Jay Lethal, etc. I felt that there was so much more that they could have done, but at the same time, I understand why Mike and Maria had to leave, Taven sadly got injured and Cole moved on as well.
But now seeing them together in AEW is pretty cool. Hope and pray they all find continued success! But the reason why I am only talking about the original run was because the Kingdom really helped me enjoy wrestling again and they have also inspired some of my writing and really helped me through some tough times.
God Bless you guys! Best of luck in your future!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
