Space Jam (1996 Film)
Everybody get up its time to slam now, we got the real jam going down, welcome to the Space Jam, here 's your chance do your dance with the Space Jam. Oh man I absolutely love it when this song comes on especially during my childhood. Much like the Power Rangers movie that I had written about last year, this movie was just as fun. It is called Space Jam!
Space Jam follows the adventures of Michael Jordan who was retired from basketball and was now playing baseball before literally being dragged into the world of Looney Tunes who request his help as they are at risk being turned to slaves by Mr. Swackhammer and his Nerdlucks who run an amusement park called Moron Mountain.
At first, the Looney Tunes think they have the upper hand because the Nerdlucks are small in height, so they challenged them to a basketball game. However, the Nerdlucks ended up stealing the talent from NBA players, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues and become giant monsters called the Monstars.
Danny DeVito played the main villain of the film Mr. Swackhammer and I thought he did a great job. Also getting to see all these amazing characters that have been around long before me and Chad were even born was fun too.
This movie was also the introduction to a brand new character aka, Lola Bunny who played the love interest for Bugs. Which I must say, I really enjoyed watching Bugs just get all love struck over Lola. Also, I loved getting to see all of these great players of the time and players that came before them like Larry Bird was pretty cool because of all the stories I learned about him along with many others.
Space Jam was a hit when it was released in November of 96 with box office 250 million dollars off a budget of 80 million dollars.
Again, this film was a major part of my childhood as well as cultural history. Fun fact, there was website for Space Jam that came out in 1996 along with the movie. It was unchanged for 25 years prior to the sequel and has become a historical artifact of early days of the web.
There was also a video game that came out along with the movie as well and yes, I did play it a lot with my brothers. Maybe I should talk about it next.
I love this movie! Brings me back and honestly, I miss those days, but I am forever grateful to have those moments in my life.
Happy 30 years Space Jam!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
