Rocky (1976 Movie)

One of my personal favorite movies ever is now turning 50 years old this year. One of my personal heroes and inspirations for daily life and that is the Italian Stallion himself, Rocky.

In 1976, the world was introduced to Rocky Balboa, a down on his luck boxer trying to overcome the obstacles in his life. Sylvester Stallone stars as Rocky as well as the creator which basically launched Stallone into stardom.

Story follows Balboa who is struggling in the city of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, Pa as a boxer and loan shark collector for the local mob.

He soon gets the break he was hoping for when the World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed was looking for new opponent to face him since his previous challenger had to back out of the fight due to a broken hand. Creed decides to give Rocky a shot at the title.

The fight itself turned into a frenzy as Rocky proves himself more than a challenge for the champion Creed. Although Creed would win the fight via decision, Rocky managed to go the distance which was 15 rounds before walking away with the love of his life Adrian.

God I love this movie so much! I mean this film gives me so much hope. For someone who struggles in his daily life like myself, seeing Rocky overcome his struggles and made something of himself always brings a tear to my eyes. It just helps me push forward no matter how tough things get and that it reminds me that there is always hope.

Of course, we can not talk about this movie without mentioning the training montage music with Rocky getting ready for his fight with Creed, seeing him run up the steps with the music blasting and seeing him celebrate just hits me man.

I really enjoyed the fight itself in the film, I truly appreciate how well it turned out as well as the effort put into the fight.

Stallone and Carl Weathers (RIP) do an amazing job playing the main characters of Rocky and Creed respectfully. I also love the character of Adrian played by Talia Shire. She was so shy, yet caring to Rocky and supported him despite all of his struggles. Even when Rocky was down and out, she was always there for him which I really admired that about her.

We also got to talk about the performance of Burgess Meredith (RIP) as Mickey, the wise cracking trainer of Rocky. Although Mickey didn't like what Rocky was doing with his life, he still cared deeply for him and wanted to help him in his fight with Creed. I enjoy his very quotable catchphrases, like of course, "get up you son of a bitch, cause Mickey loves you". But also really love the one where Mickey is like "You're going to eat lightning and you're gonna crap thunder".

This movie had a budget of under a million dollars only to rocket up to the moon with the box office as Rocky made 225 million dollars. This made the highest grossing film of 1976. In fact, in 2006, thirty years after its release, Rocky was selected to the National Film Registry for preservation. Deserving of it!

Happy 50th Rocky! Thank you so much for being an inspiration in my life as well as bring hope to many of us and also for making me fall in love with the great sport of boxing.

Until Next Time!

God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
