BB King (Blues Singer)
Being a fan of the blues in large part due to amazing musicians like Eric Clapton for example as well as the Blues Brothers. But being a bit of a history buff myself, I wanted to learn about the history of the blues and that is the subject of today's blog post. I write about the "The King of the Blues" Riley B. King, better known as B.B. King.
Now I must say again, the first time I was introduced to B.B. King was thanks to Eric Clapton and the Blues Brothers as well as seeing him play at a Les Paul tribute concert. Just watching him sitting there with his pretty sweet bowtie and just absolutely shred his guitar completely blew my mind. I thought to myself, who is this guy?
Since then I have been researching King and I got to learn some incredible stuff. For one, prior to his death in 2015 😢, King started his career long before even my parents were born. King was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. King was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 1987.
B.B. was also known as one of the "Three Kings of the Blues Guitar" along with Albert and Freddie King (No Relation). Fun fact, King got his name BB from his time working at a radio station in Memphis. He was originally Beale Street Blues Boy before eventually shortening it to Blues Boy and then simply B.B.
King was known for his incredible work ethic having performed no more than 200 show a year. In fact, King was able to keep that pace well into his 70s.
The King of the Blues has compiled a grand total of 43 studio albums, 13 Live Albums and 138 Singles. King has had number hits for many different decades. Such great hits like You Know I Love You, Please Love Me, You Upset Me Baby, Sweet Sixteen, The Blues Come over Me, etc. King has over 50 million records sold and 2,400 Master Recordings released.
I also admire what he went through in his life to get to the heights that he was able to reach during his career. His ability to use pain to create something beautiful with his music is so inspiring and brought joy to so many of us.
I want to say Thank you Mr. King for such beautiful music and I pray for you to be at peace.
I also would like to thank my friend Stephon's father Norman Harvey for giving me some insight on B.B. King and many others. Heck, thanks for helping me understand the blues better. The Blues has certainly become more and more of one of my go to music to listen to the older I get.
Thank you again B.B. King! May you always Rest In Peace.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
