Replaying Mass Effect 1

Well, I finally did it! I recently finished playing the original Mass Effect game that came out back in 2007. It was created by Casey Hudson and developed by Bioware while being published by Microsoft Game Studios.

The game takes place within the Milky Way galaxy in the year 2183 where civilization is being attacked by the return of an highly advanced machine race better known as the Reapers.

First and foremost, I wanted to say Thank you to my dear friend Stephon who surprised me with this incredible gift of getting me Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I was completely shocked when he sent it to me, I mean to be fair, I was constantly talking about the Mass Effect series and how it shaped me writing wise as well as fun memories of gaming. But still, I am extremely grateful for the gift and am going to make the most of it.

Just seeing the intro to the first game was enough to make my heart smile. I was grinning from ear to ear as I made my character, or at least my version of Shepard.

Getting to see revisit this amazing story again, getting to chase after Saren and prevent his evil plot of destroying the Citadel was truly incredible.

I will never forget getting to meet all of my favorite characters in the game. Hanging out with Captain Anderson (Shout Out Keith David!) Ashley Williams, Kaiden Alenko, Wrex, Tali, Liara, Joker, the Council, etc. You name it, I was happy to get to see it again.

The game itself was pretty straight forward in my humble opinion. But with that being said, I did find myself a bit lost with all of the side missions within the game and had as much fun with it as I did the main story.

Of course, I really love getting to hangout with Garrus Vakarian who is by far my favorite character in the game. That lovable Turian is one of the main reasons as to why I love this franchise. I could relate to him so much, his sense of justice, trying to do the right thing, being sick of all of the rules and regulations of his former job at C-Sec. Garrus is certainly one of the best squadmates out of all of the characters. Such something about him signals to me that everything was going to be okay and only wanted what was best for me and for everyone else for that matter.

Gameplay was so much fun and getting to interact with all of the characters throughout the game brought back so many fun memories for me. It brought me to a world that honestly, I wish I could be a part of in real life. Not to get all depressing, but seeing this world again, I felt so peaceful, at ease, no stress what so ever. It took me away from my reality which involves me dealing with Scoliosis and Cerebral Palsy as well as my struggles trying to live in the so call "Real World". I haven't felt that way in a video game in a long time and it felt really good.

Playing this game, made me feel like I could exactly achieve something in this life, something I often struggle mentally with. Wondering if I could ever succeed in anything, this made me feel like the hero that I always wanted to be. I felt like I was making a difference for all of those I cared about and loved.

As the game came to a close, the credits began to roll, I just jumped with excitement. It has been quite a while since I last played this game and I so grateful to being able to play it again. Appreciate the gift Stephon!

Now it is on to Mass Effect 2! Can't wait to keep on playing and enjoying this amazing trip down memory lane.

Until Next Time!

God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
