"Irish" Micky Ward (Boxing Legend)

One of my personal heroes in the world of sports is former professional boxer "Irish" Micky Ward who competed from 1985 to 2003.

Ward has held the IBF light welterweight championship in 1997 and then later the WBU light welterweight championship in 2000.

I was first introduced to Ward in large part thanks to his legendary trilogy of fights between himself and another one of my personal favorite boxers in Arturo "Thunder" Gatti (RIP), two of those three fights won Fight of the Year awards courtesy of the Ring magazine.

Another reason why I became such a fan of Ward is because of his style of fighting. Known as a pressure fighter, no matter what happens to him in the ring, just know that Ward was going to keep pushing forward. Ward was always consider the underdog in most of his bouts, but it sure didn't look like at it at times.

His nonstop action is something that admire about him even to this very day. Especially getting to learn more about him since his retirement from the boxing game. Though it is not my place to tell his story, but hearing about all the struggles he went through in his life and to see where he is now, is truly inspiring and I really wish to be more like that in my own personal life.

Now I am going to be extremely biased here, for the longest time, I didn't understand why Ward was not inducted into the Hall of Fame. His resume speaks for itself, I may be no boxing expert, but holy crap guys, surely he was deserving and should have been in it a long time ago.

But I guess better late than never as in 2024, the National Boxing Hall of Fame put Ward in his rightful place among the other greats of the sports. Although, Ward was given the honors in the New Jersey, Atlantic City and Connecticut Halls of Fame, I just was so happy to hear that he was going to be in the National Boxing Hall of Fame because again, it was well deserved.

Besides being known for being a pressure fighter, one of my favorite quotes I have ever heard about Ward was from fellow boxer Zab Judah had said that Ward had a body shot that could drop a donkey. Not even wildlife was safe from his dangerous body blows lol.

Overall, Ward's Professional boxing career finished with a record of 38 wins, 27 of which were by knockout, 11 by decision and 13 losses, 1 by knockout and 12 by decision.

Thank you so much Micky Ward for being an inspiration and I pray that you are having a blast in retirement. Thanks for the memories!

Until Next Time!

God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
