The Triple Threat (ECW Faction)
It is crazy to think that this underrated faction is 30 years old, but nonetheless, the Triple Threat was one of my personal favorite pro wrestling groups of all time.
As mentioned earlier, the Triple Threat was formed in 1995 with the original incarnation featuring "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit in Extreme Championship Wrestling. I must saying, although I never saw this version during its original run, getting to see them on the WWE Network and YouTube really was fun to watch. What I like about the trio of Benoit, Malenko and Douglas was how each of them were such great technical wrestlers (which is the kind of wrestling I prefer) and how they could make anyone that they wrestled against look amazing.
Sadly, this trio did not last for very long which is unfortunate. I am a bit curious to see how far the original incarnation of the Triple Threat would have worked if it had at least a year under their belts. But one can only ponder.
Fast forward a few years later, the incarnation that I remember most and was the one that introduced me to the Triple Threat as well as introduced me to ECW. Shane Douglas made his return to ECW and soon reformed the faction with Chris Candido and at first Brian Lee, but soon left and was replaced by Bam Bam Bigelow and of course, I can not forget about "The Queen of Extreme" Francine.
Now, to be perfectly honest with all of you, I was not a big fan of the Hardcore style of professional wrestling. No disrespect to anyone who does, it was just not my cup of tea, I like to have my wrestling be more on the technical side. Which was why I enjoyed watching the Triple Threat, thanks to guys like Shane Douglas, Candido and Bam Bam being such a powerhouse and of course Francine and her let's just say seductive ways.
These guys were a force to be reckon with and in my humble opinion, really carried the company and really help create a lot of new stars for ECW.
Shane Douglas is such an underrated talent and mind for the business. Again, in my humble opinion, Shane is the greatest ECW Heavyweight Champion in that company's history, with respect to all the others who have performed in that company. Fun fact, when I was wrestling and refereeing, I got to meet Shane one time in Lancaster and I got to sit down and talk and ask him questions. He could not have been more professional and he taught me a lot about wrestling as well as psychology. Thank you so much Shane! God Bless you and your family!
Speaking of underrated, Chris Candido is one of the most underrated pro wrestlers ever and more of the younger generation need to watch and read about him. Such a great technical wrestler and was quite good on the mic if I do say so myself. I can't believe it has been 20 years since his death. Rest In Peace Chris! 🙏🙏🙏
Bam Bam Bigelow is one of the best big man in the history of the sport. At the time, you didn't see many guys his size do moonsaults and other high flying maneuvers and it truly was incredible and I dare say, was believable. RIP!
Francine is a very beautiful woman who knew how to talk on the mic. I must also say that do enjoy her podcast that you can see on YouTube called My Eyes Are Up Here.
The Triple Threat was a major influence on me and what I had hoped to do in pro wrestling when I was on the indy circuit as a referee and wrestler. I wanted to create a faction that could help whatever company we would worked for whether it be as a tag team, six-man tag or just simple singles matches. I wanted to use my faction to help other wrestlers whether it be against my faction or being a part of my faction. I would have loved to be able to create merch and use to rise up money that could not only help me, but also help other wrestlers who struggle to make money because it is not easy on the independents when it comes to making money. Just wanting to help the business in anyway I can.
I wish that more people would give the Triple Threat the credit that they deserved. This group was a major part for the success of ECW in my humble opinion. Thank you for all the amazing memories!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
