Post #350: Magical Moment At Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church
WOW! I mean, when I first started this blog, I didn't think much of it, to be this was going to be a place where I could just write whatever. I had no idea that it would even last as long as it did and I am so grateful to all of you, whether you are some one I know who reads this or someone from around the world, thank you so much for your continued support.
For post 350, I thought I share a special story to you guys, a story that I use to remind myself, that God is there for us. I guess you can call it a sign if you will.
A few years ago, I went to a Wednesday night Mass over at the Roman Catholic Church in Lewistown called Sacred Heart. It is a very lovely and beautiful church and I have been around them for sometime now and at the time I really became good friends with one of the pastors there named Fr. Peter Rettig. Sadly, Fr. Rettig is no longer than at Sacred Heart due to him being transferred, but trying to stay positive, this was one of my favorite moments that happened during this special Mass.
It was a rainy evening as I arrived at the church, getting ready for Mass. I usually got to Wednesday night Mass mainly because it is in the evening, plus with my anxiety, there aren't always many people there so I don't feel as awkward.
But I am getting a bit sidetrack, sorry about that. As I walked inside the church, I realized that the lights were out. I kind of wondered if Mass was canceled and was about ready to go back to my car, that was until I heard Fr. Rettig call out to me.
I turned around and greeted him and noticed he was carrying lit candles. I asked him why he was carrying candles. He explained that the power had went out at the church and that he was going to perform Mass like they did during the medieval times.
I thought that was so cool! I really was excited about this because I have always been fascinated by ancient cultures and the idea was going through something like that was very appealing to me. You know the magic and mysticism of it.
And folks, let me tell you, during the Mass, inside the darkness with only the lit candles to give us light. It just felt so peaceful. I mean, I honestly felt like my mind was transported to another world and it was so relaxing.
As Fr. Rettig continued to perform Mass, I just felt so amazing, the room may have been dark, but I certainly felt a loving presence all over me and it was really comforting. What I thought was interesting was, you could still hear cars go by, yet it was like you couldn't, I don't know if that makes any sense, again, I really enjoyed it.
The best part of it was when Fr. Rettig was wrapping up Mass, I remember saying that the Mass has ended and told us all to go in peace and my Lord be with you Amen. And as soon as he said Amen, the lights turned back on 😲.
That was incredible! I mean, just WOW! After a few minutes of the lights coming back on, Fr. Rettig and I just looked at each other and just smiled.
That night was amazing and I am so thankful for that experience. To me, it just felt like no matter hard dark things may seem or even if we have no electricity, God is always there.
I remember talking with Fr. Rettig afterwards and we both just thought how cool that moment was and still is to this very day.
Honestly, it has been one of my, if not my favorite spiritual moment ever in my lifetime.
I miss those times, but again, I want to stay positive and I truly believe that what has happened since then is all part of God's Plan. Maybe sometime, I will get back to that.
I miss you Fr. Rettig, and I pray that wherever you may be that God is always watching over you. And I just wanted to also say to the people of Sacred Heart, I love you all, God Bless you and I pray that we will all meet again soon.
I would also like to say thank you to you all for your support!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
