Andre The Giant!
Myself and my twin brother Chad had recently watched an old episode of WWE's Most Wanted Treasures where the crew were trying to find special items that involved the Eighth Wonder of the World himself, Andre The Giant.
The episode itself was a fun watch, but it made me a bit emotional and honestly, it was really cool to see the looks on the faces of the people who knew and loved Andre.
Speaking of being emotional, I remember watching the 2018 documentary of Andre the Giant that aired on HBO. Just seeing what Andre had went through his entire life was really sad to see.
For those that may or may not know, Andre was born with a disease called gigantism which is caused by excess human growth hormone.
Andre the Giant put the world of professional wrestling on put notice in the late sixties, but by the time he got to the WWWF (Now WWE) in the early 70s and became a Global Superstar! I dare say his presence in the company was a major driving force for the WWE to become what it is today.
I mean it makes perfect sense to have Andre the Giant be booked around the world. I mean look at him, he is a giant. Who could possibly beat him and for it to make sense. Plus, back in those days of wrestling, he needed to be that way or it could have ruined the territory, so Andre constantly had to be moving around.
Which is one of the reasons why I felt so sorry for him. Think about it, at that time, there really wasn't anything that could fit for a guy his size. Airplane seats were too small, showers were not big enough for him to get clean, tooth brushes were too small for his teeth, there also wasn't many cars for him to drive, when he go into a hotel, he was bigger than the beds.
Others why I felt so bad for him was his issues with Gigantism, he never stop growing and later in his life it became obvious that he had to retire from the ring.
I guess, there is a silver lining to all of this. And that was knowing that Andre had found peace in the people he loved during his time here on Earth. Going back to the episode that I watched, seeing Stephanie McMahon smile about him and telling fun stories about him from when she was little was really cool. Also seeing how much Andre meant to wrestlers like the Big Show and Mark Henry as well as Frenchy Bernard and so many more certainly had a few tears going down my face.
I also loved how they brought up his time as an actor especially his time on the film the Princess Bride which I enjoyed the movie and loved his performance in the film as well.
It is crazy to believe that it has been over thirty years since his death at the young age of 46 years old. Not long after his death, WWE created the WWE Hall of Fame and inducted Andre as the lone inductee which was well deserved.
I hope and pray that Andre is at peace and thank him for all the amazing memories he had made for many wrestling fans all over the world.
Rest In Peace Andre!
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
