Dallas Cowboys (65 Years Of A Franchise)!
Well guys and gals, with players heading into training camp, that can only mean one thing. NFL Football is almost here. But this year, one of the teams in the NFL will be celebrating a big year and that is the Dallas Cowboys who are in their 65th year of existence.
It is crazy to think that a team like the Cowboys has come from an expansion team, all the way to one of the richest franchises in all of sports.
During my research for this blog post, I was quite surprised to see some of the early days about the Cowboys. Especially the struggles, I mean trying to build a football team from the ground up is no easy task. In fact, it took them five years just to get to a .500 record before finally getting a winning record in 1966.
One of the contributing factors for the creation and success of the Cowboys was their original owner, Clint Murchison Jr who owned the team from 1960 to 1984. Another is player personnel Gil Brandt, general manager Tex Schramm.
And arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest coach in NFL history in the form of Tom Landry who was the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants prior to him becoming the first Head Coach of the Cowboys.
Under coach Landry, the Cowboys help create a lot of things that have become a standard in the great game of football. Things like the Flex Defense, the multiple offensive concepts and one of the biggest influence to the league with the shotgun offense.
Of course, over the course of 65 years of the Dallas Cowboys, several coaches and players have made their mark on not only the team, but the entire league itself.
Coaches like Dan Reeves, Mike Ditka, Wade Philips, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Barry Switzer, Mike McCarthy.
They also had plenty of great football players throughout its history, many of which have made their way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Players like Bob Lilly, Roger Staubach, Don Meredith, Bob Haynes, Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, Lee Roy Jordan, Chuck Howley, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Randy White, Harvey Martin, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, DeMarcus Ware, Charles Haley, Charlie Waters, Cliff Harris, Bill Bates, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, Sean Lee and so many others.
Since their debut in 1960, Dallas has collected 25 Division Titles, 10 Conference Championships and five Super Bowls. However, it has been some time since the Cowboys were able to make it to the Super Bowl let alone win one as their last Super Bowl title came thirty years ago in 1995 under Head Coach Barry Switzer and they have been looking to win one ever since.
Who knows, maybe year number 65 will be the year the Cowboys finally get back on top? We all just have to wait and see as the new NFL season approaches.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
