The Playstation 2
Hard to believe sometimes but this amazing system came out 25 years ago and it certainly was a big part of my childhood. The Playstation 2 arrived on shelves on March 4, 2000, it was a sixth generation console that competed against other systems like the Nintendo Game Cube, the Sega Dreamcast and the original Xbox.
I remember watching the hype and eventually launch of the PS2 on Gamespot TV. Man did it have a lot of hype on it especially since the original Playstation was so successful and boy did it live up to the hype.
The lifespan of the PS2 went from March 2000 to January 2013 and sold over 160 million units Worldwide. 😮
One of the things I loved about the PS2 was the simple fact that it's backwards compatibility. You didn't have to get rid of your favorite PS1 games, so if you wanted to, you could just put in a classic and enjoy it while getting to play the newer PS2 games.
Of course, much like the older systems, the PS2 had things called a Memory Card, which those could be a struggle sometimes. Looker back on it, I can honestly laugh at myself trying to remember which Memory Card I used to save certain games on. Good Times!😂
The controllers were pretty much the same as the original Playstation. But hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it and the controllers were just as good and fun to play with as the original was.
The best selling game off all time for the PS2 was Grand Theft Auto San Andreas which made 17 million dollars. Which it came out in 2004.
Although a great game and I certainly enjoyed playing it. I also really loved playing games like Devil May Cry which made its debut on the system. Also games like Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Madden, College Football, College Basketball, heck there was even a College Baseball game as well. Of course there was also great series like GTA that made an impact for PS2 like the Final Fantasy series and the Metal Gear Solid series.
Personally, there were so many games on that system I loved playing on, it is really tough to say which one was my favorite. Guitar Hero was a lot of fun playing, I also enjoyed playing the NFL Head Coach game, Aggressive Inline, the Tony Hawk series, and so forth. Yeah! There was a ton to play on this system.
If I ever was able to make my own retro video game room, I certainly would be adding the PS2 on that list. It truly was an amazing system and looking back on it brought a lot of fun memories and awesome games to talk about.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
