Groundhog Day! 2025

 Well folks! We are here for another special moment, and that moment is the prediction of one little groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil. Will it be an early spring? Or will we all have to endure six more weeks of winter?

This tradition has been around for 185 years now. According to the Library of Congress, the first known prediction was made back in 1840 thanks to a diary entry from a Pennsylvania store-keeper.

Ever since then, good ole Phil has been coming out of his little home and if he sees his shadow and runs back in, that means six more weeks of winter.

This lore of this tradition comes from the German speaking areas where a badger was used while say in Hungary, they used a bear.

There is also a related story within a Christian festival called Candlemas which is also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ, the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary and the Feast of the Holy Encounter. Interesting fact, some Christians believe that this is the day that we took down our Christmas decorations. It is also the commemoration of the presentation of Jesus at the Temple in the Book of Luke 2:22-40. Many Christians also bring candles to be blessed and lit to symbolize that Jesus who is the Light of the World. 

The down side however of this event, is that poor Phil doesn't exactly have the best record when it comes to his predictions. In fact, they are less successfully than a coin flip. According to Stormfax, Phil is right 39 percent of the time. Which is a shame 😢.

Personally, I really want it to be early spring, I am not much of a fan of the cold winter anymore lol.

The Wacky Adventures Of Joshua and Chad: McVeytown Eagles Championship Parade!

Well tonight was a pretty special night down here in McVeytown as Chad and I along with many other people who live here in McVeytown all came together to celebrate a special accomplishment. And that was how all three of the McVeytown Eagles teams made it to the CKYFL championship games. Winning in both the Peewee and Midget divisions and placing second in the Mighty Mights. Stuff like this doesn't happen often in such a small town where I live so to see these kids have the time of their lives during the parade was certainly a sight to see. One of the things I love about covering sports is when I see kids learn, work hard and turn it into success. And these kids were learning a lot throughout the season and watching them grow and not only become better football players, but better people as well.  Which is why I have really enjoyed covering the CKYFL these last few years for Hometown Sports. Nick Dickson

 Recently, I had found out that a family friend of ours named Nick Dickson had a stroke and people have been doing what they can to support him and his family. Nick is a local mechanic who has been serving this community for many, many years and has always been a generous, hard worker and honorable person at the Dickson's Garage along with his father Ken. He and his father are also local racing legends around here in Mifflin County having raced for a couple generations now. Nick and his family have always been honest with me and my family and has helped take care of our vehicles for many years. They are amazing,  hardworking people who now need our help. And according to the go fund me page that was set up by Andrea Baker and Valeri Thornburgh. The doctors had told his family that it will take months at minimum for him to be able to recover and will not be able to work for the foreseeable future.
