Darkwatch (Video Game)

Can't believe that this amazing video game is 25 years old. And it still looks incredible even in today's graphic standards. I am talking about the gothic western classic, Darkwatch.

Darkwatch burst onto the scene in 2005 for the Playstation 2 as well as the Xbox and was developed by High Noon Studios. This game is a mix between horror, western and steampunk.

The story follows Jericho Cross, an outlaw gunfighter in the late 19th century American Frontier who was turned into a vampire and was forced to joining an elite group of monster hunters who set out to fight the supernatural forces. AKA Darkwatch.

Cross who is voiced by Christopher Corey Smith attempts to rob a train only to discover that he had mistakenly released the vampire lord and former leader of Darkwatch Lazarus Malkoth. There he becomes a vampire himself thanks to Lazarus and soon begins his quest to save himself and to become human again.

Joining Cross on his quest are Cassidy Sharp voiced by Jennifer Hale, Tala who is voiced by Rose McGowan and current leader of Darkwatch Clay Cartwright who is played by Michael Bell.

I must say that Peter Jason (The Narrator) who was known for playing Con Stapleton in the series Deadwood as well as Sergeant Dorman in Fallout 2, did an incredible job with creating the vibe of the story.

Another thing I like about the game was you get to choose between the light path or the dark path which ultimately dictates where the story will go.

Gameplay was amazing, especially when Cross uses his vampiric powers whether it be for example, the Black Shroud where you steal life force energy from nearby enemies, that is if you choose the dark path. Now if you choose the light path,  you can use the silver bullet which makes your weapons cause more damage.

Fun fact! When Cross is fighting during the daytime, his powers are gone and has to fight like a human which I thought was a nice touch. So was getting to use a 24 shot Redeemer Handgun!

It really is a shame that this game never got a sequel. I mean it had the potential and there were attempts to get the series off the ground running, but sadly has yet to happen.

Apparently Darkwatch was suppose to be the first game of the series where they were to explore the Darkwatch organization from different time periods. Such as the Crusades, WWII and even ancient Rome. That would have been sweet!

In fact, there was a sequel being made in 2007, but for some reason, the game got canceled. Now, I have no idea as to why it was, even after all this time.

It sucks because I really did enjoy this game and in my humble opinion, had the legs to make it into a great series and the game itself had great replay value.

Sadly, one can only dream.

Until Next Time!

God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
