Daredevil (Comic Book Character)
I am super excited about today's post because it is about one of my personal favorite comic book characters and his name is Daredevil. Interesting to know that this character is only a year younger than my parents lol. Sorry mom, sorry dad 😆. In April of 1964 Daredevil burst upon the scene and has been around ever since.
Daredevil was created by writer Stan Lee and was drawn by Bill Everett. (RIP to both men and thank you for creating such an incredible character.)
The story is about Matt Murdock who is from a working class Irish-American family living in a crime ridden Hell's Kitchen, New York. At a young age, Murdock's life is changed forever after saving a man from an oncoming truck carrying chemicals. Which caused him to lose his sight completely.
Matt is raised by a single father named Jack who is a boxer trying to give his now blind son a better life than he had it. Sadly, Jack is lately killed by mobsters for refusing to throw a boxing match that he was competing in. After losing his father Matt is trained by the mysterious blind martial artist Stick and along with graduating from law school, Matt begins his fight against crime and eventually finds and brings to justice the gangsters who killed his father.
But then he dons the Daredevil suit begins to live a double-life as a vigilante and fights super-villains like Bullseye and the Kingpin.
For starters I love Daredevil because seeing a man with a disability like he does and manages to find a way to not only help others like becoming a lawyer, but also fight crime itself. Though I myself am not blind, I struggle with other stuff like I have mention before about Scoliosis/Cerebral Palsy in my other blogs. So I think it is really cool to have someone like in comics but also it feels believable if that makes any sense.
I love how they use him like a bat, although he can not see, he can use his other senses to help him move around the city but also to fight the criminals.
Also, the film noir style that Frank Miller did really fits into how Daredevil should be written, but that is just my humble opinion.
I love the themes the story of Daredevil explores too. Stuff like political corruption, moral ambiguity, childhood trauma, Irish Catholic identity, Christian themes and of course disabilities.
Daredevil has also been in a movie which starred Ben Affleck back in 2003 which I thought was alright. But more recently, Charlie Cox played the character in the Netflix series back in 2015 and I must say, he did an incredible job as the character and I was really upset that the show didn't last longer because I felt it certainly had a potential to make a strong run.
But now it will be returning as Daredevil Born Again will be airing on Disney plus on March 4th. I am super excited, but extremely nervous about it. It is cool that the cast from the Netflix series is coming back, which also includes Jon Bernthal as the Punisher which is another one of my personal favorite comic book characters. So I was happy to see him back because his show was pretty cool to see as well on Netflix but it was also canceled.
I just really want this show to be good! It is one of my favorite characters and it would be very cool to be able to watch it. Fingers crossed.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
