Blue Gender (Anime)
To no ones surprise, I am a major dork! 😁 and I do enjoy a good anime. For me personally one of the things I enjoyed the most watching growing up as a kid was anime even though I wasn't able to watch a lot of them due to not having Cartoon Network. Most of the stuff I was able to see like Pokemon and Digimon because those were on stuff like Fox Kids.
However, I did manage to see some of anime on Cartoon Network especially when I went to see my Nan and Pap. I got to see some of my favorite anime of all time like Dragon Ball Z and mainly Mobile Suit Gundam. But today I am going to write about one of the most underrated anime Blue Gender.
Blue Gender is a mecha, science fiction, horror anime and was created by Ryosuke Takahashi who has been involved with manga and anime since the early 60s.
Blue Gender is set in the year 2030 and the planet Earth has been overrun by an alien monsters called the Blue who hunt and harvest humans for food. The survivors retreat to place in outer space called Second Earth and soon begin piloting mechs to combat against the Blue and try to bring back "Sleepers" to Second Earth.
The story revolves around Yuji as he is awaken after spending time in cryogenic stasis and finds himself in the middle of the war between the humans and the Blue. Yuji who was put to sleep due to an incurable illness, is completely lost in this new world and is rescued by soldier Marlene and together they must find a way back to Second Earth.
The first thing that got my attention with this anime was the simple fact that it involves giant fighting robots. It also features a combination of sci-fi and horror, both of which I greatly appreciate.
Another one was the theme song to the series called Set Me Free. Holy Crap is it EPIC! Amazing! It never fails to get me pumped up.
Of course, I am embarrassed to admit this but I thought it was kind of funny. When I first remember seeing the anime, it was edited, so there was no sex, nudity and some of the more graphic violence from the show. Then years later, I hung out with my friend Cory who had the complete series on DVD and we decided to watch it again. But he told me that this is the unedited version which I was surprised to hear, and I was even more surprised with what was happening with the unedited version 😂.
I just really love the concept as well as the storytelling. I wish I could explain more but I want all of you to see it so I don't want to spoil anything.
But please go check out this incredible anime. I might just go back and watch again myself lol.
Until Next Time!
God Bless and Be Safe Everybody! 🙏🙏🙏
