Notre Dame Football Preview

Well we are getting closer to another season of Notre Dame football. We are heading into year number three under head coach Marcus Freeman who is currently has a record of (19-8) as the head coach of the Fighting Irish.

There are several new additions to the Notre Dame staff this coming season with four new members starting with the new offensive coordinator in the form of Mike Denbrock who came over from LSU. However, the 60 year old Denbrock is no stranger to the Fighting Irish as he was once the tight ends/offensive line coach from 2002-2004, he then came back as the tight ends coach from 2010-2011, wide receivers coach from 2012-2013, offensive coordinator in 2014 and finally assistant head coach/wide receiver coach from 2015-2016. So it will be very interesting to see how this veteran coach will do with the offense.

Other first year members to the coaching staff are Mike Brown who will be the wide receivers coach after being at Wisconsin the previous year. Max Bullough after being a Graduate assistant with Notre Dame last year was promoted to be the Linebackers coach. Last but not least, Loren Landow joins Notre Dame as the Director of Performance after being with the Denver Broncos as the Strength and Conditioning coach.

Recently the Irish had just announced that their five captains. QB Riley Leonard, DT Rylie Mills, LB Jack Kiser, CB Benjamin Morrison and S Xavier Watts.

For me personally, I am more of a defensive guy when it comes to football so one of the things I am keeping my eye on is how third year defensive coordinator Al Golden will be bringing to the table. According to Sports Illustrated, the Notre Dame defense allowed 15.9 points per game and could be much better this coming season.

Also I am very interested in how Riley Leonard will fit in the Notre Dame offense with offensive coordinator Denbrock after having success as the Quarterback of the Duke Blue Devils.

Ironically, Leonard and the Irish will open the 2024 football season on the road as they will due battle against his old coach Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday August 31 on ABC with a start time of 7:30 p.m.

The Irish Green jersey game will be on September 28 on Peacock at 3:30 p.m. as the Irish will host Louisville.

Notre Dame is coming into the season ranked as the seventh best team in the nation and could possibly make the now expanded college football playoff. Of course if they managed to get past Texas A&M who is ranked 20th, the Fighting Irish will be having some tough opponents later on down the road which includes Florida State who is tenth and then the final game of the season going up against the USC Trojans was named as the 23rd best team in the nation.

But as they always say, this is why you play the game. Notre Dame will have to prove themselves each and every week that they belong in the college football playoffs.

Again, the Notre Dame will hit the road to face Texas A&M on August 31 at 7:30 p.m.

Let's go Irish!
